August 2nd - Edison has done well with all the changes. The previous owners said he was not house trained, but the training is going great; we have him on a regular schedule of 2 walks a day and out 2 other times - he will try to mark, but I am guessing that will get better when he is neutered. He seemed confused by the dog dish and hard kibble, but will eat it if we hand feed it as a treat for training. He is a very quick learner; my 11 year old daughter has taught him sit, lay down and he almost has roll over - either he is a genius or maybe Katie has watched enough Victoria Stillwell this summer to learn some training. The groomer said he was very well behaved yesterday. Edison does bark a lot and will have a mini-meltdown (pacing, panting, heart racing) if he cannot see one of his people around the house, but does fine as long as he sees one of us. He can be sleeping, but if he hears our footsteps and knows we have left the room he will start barking and pacing. I don't know if that is because of the neglect in his previous home and all of the recent changes for him. We are working on this issue and hope with time, training, and him getting into a routine this will become better. At the park he is scared of people he does not know and will just roll over on his back or dart away from them if he can, but does much better after a little time. Edison is good with other dogs - friendly, but will ignore them if they are not interested in him.
