Sadly, Harper was beaten by everyone, even the kids, at her previous home. Due to her injuries from the beatings she is blind in her right eye but sees fine with her left. She was also hit by a car a month ago and never received any vet care for her injuries. She is also very underweight. He foster home will make sure she puts on some much needed weight.

When we first got Harper into our rescue she was quickly taken to the vet to determine the extent of her previous injuries. Harper's internal injuries were so serious that her only chance of survival was surgery to repair a hole in her diaphragm which was allowing her liver, pancreas and small intestine to be pushed up into her chest cavity. . She also had a partially collapsed lung and was determined to be blind in her right eye.

On June 25th, she had her surgery. The vet indicated that her internal injuries were much worse than anticipated and there was some concern as to whether she still would survive.

Thankfully, Harper came through the surgery and is now doing well. She is enjoying live in her foster home where she is learning that humans are capable of providing comfort, love and affection.

Harper is very smart as she quickly learned her new name and how to sit. She likes other dogs but is a little unsure so introductions need to be made slowly. She also likes kids. She hasn't been introduced to the foster home's cat yet.

July 20th - I am providing some pictures of Harper with her favorite toy she insists on lugging around. In the one sideways shot picture, you can see her weight is looking much better …good puppy food 3x daily. And note that her eye is all the way open now and not so light sensitive. (She cannot see out of her right eye.) She is not as right-eye skittish around people now, but still very jumpy/grumpy if a strange dog approaches her on the right side.

She and foster sister Bailey have been chasing and playing around the house/yard until their tongues are about touching the floor. They play very well together.
