Name: Penny
Breed: American Pitbull Terrier
Age: 10-12 months
Size: Medium - 40lbs
Adoption Fee: $120
Other: Vaccinations current and spayed.

Penny is a sweet, sweet dog. She is shy at first, but once she knows you are a friend she warms up quickly. Penny loves to play with other dogs, big or small. She walks well on leash and seems to listen well. We think Penny would do fine with cats, right now they scare her but we think she would do fine getting to know them. Penny is a stunning dog, she has a rich chocolate coat and beautiful eyes.

This sweet dog almost didn't get her second chance at a loving family. Her owner was sent to jail and Penny and 2 other doggie friends were sent to the pound. On her last day we took Penny in and now she is waiting for her forever family.

November 11 -I have never had a sweeter pup than Penny for a foster. I have seen 100% turn around in her demeanor from a shy and scared little girl to very playful and lovable. She has been enjoying the outdoors and going on walks, and was even complimented on how well-behaved she was on the leash. With the turn of the weather she is a bit more of a couch potato, very content to sit and cuddle while I study.

She is opening up as we introduce her to more people and pets, though still barks when anyone comes through the door. It seems to be more of a "hello, Penny is here, who are you?" than a mean bark or a warning however. She just wants in on what is going on.

She and the cat have found their peace with one another. Penny wanted very badly to be friends, but Maliika wouldn't have it for the longest time. She has since warmed up quite a bit, I even snapped a picture of a close-proximity nap the other day, proving it only takes time and patience.

With dogs, Penny is ready to play. She learns a lot by watching them, and has become more confident and obedient by watching my roommates' older hunting dog. The only thing she needs to learn is that not all dogs, especially older ones, have the energy to play with her all the time!

Penny still does have some fear strangers and unfamiliar places. When children are running, or yelling as they play near the sidewalk, she gets very wary and frightened. Occasionally they run up and want to pet her, which makes her shake and try to get away. Even so, I am convinced that Penny would make a good family dog. She tolerates a lot of patting, pulling, lifting up, and many other things some dogs wouldn't, and loves to play with people and her toys. She is very shy and reserved at first around strangers or new animals, but once properly introduced she warms up very quickly.

Especially in a family with older children, who could initially contain their excitement and understand why Penny is afraid, she would get a chance to become familiar with them and be a great playmate. She has never shown aggression, or ever tried to bite when she is scared, and mostly tries to hide behind my legs.

This beautiful dog will melt your heart and make you fall in love with her, just ask my mom!

October 12 - Penny is doing really well. She visited my parents house where she got along really well with their dog Charlie. They have plenty of space for the dogs to run. Penny was very puppyish, running herself silly. She even got to experience lake water but it was too cold to try swimming in it.

Penny is very cuddly towards women and is definitely a ladies dog. She is still a bit shy of men but will eventually warm up to them. Penny has a very sweet personality!

September 10 - Penny is an absolute sweetheart. She has been with us for almost 2 weeks and she has been wonderful. She loves to be in the same room as you. She is crate trained and house trained. She is not food or toy aggressive. She needs a little coaxing to get into her crate but once in she is good. She knows "sit" and we are working on "down". I am amazed at what a fast learner she is. With some love and praise she is willing to learn anything. She is good on a leash, although new environments/situations make her a little shy but once she is comfortable she is happy and loving. She gets along well with kids. She is very playful, although a little nippy when she plays with our 2 dogs, but we are working on that. You can definitely tell she is still young. Penny would be a great addition to any household.
