Steve had a sad start to life- the backyard breeder whose dog had him was going to kill the little guy because of his cleft palate- even though it caused him no problems. Luckily he was saved for the first time by a family who took him in. Unfortunately, a little over 2 months ago, Steve's owners lost their home and had nowhere for him to go. So, instead of taking him to a pound or shelter (where he most likely would have been euthanized or ended up in the wrong hands) they took him to a boarding facility until a safe, responsible and caring rescue and foster home could be found.
Steve is a wonderful, sweet and loving dog who gets along great with dogs and kids. This dog has a heart of gold and is a perfect example of all the good qualities so many pit bulls out there possess.
Please read his foster home feedback for more info.
October 26th -Steve has been renamed Tony (after Tony Montana from Scarface).... He is such a meathead :) He absolutely LOVES people and is a great dog! He does wonderful indoors. He whimpers if he needs to go outside, he stays in a kennel all day and he has never marked in my house. He loves to ride in the car and enjoys visiting other dogs. He likes to play with toys and enjoys playing with my small dog. He actually sleeps quite a bit and is pretty mellow of a dog. Tony has been around my 2 year old nephew and just licks his face! Tony would make a wonderful companion for anybody and would love to find his forever home.
August 30th - Steve has been a wonderful dog to foster.
Steve probably does not look like the smartest dog out there but he is
actually very, very smart. He knows how to sit, shake, speak, lay down
and kennel! And he learned all these within a matter of days. He is so
gentle and loves everybody he meets... this guy will lick you to death!
Steve gets along with every dog he meets -- males, females, big or small...doesn't
matter to him, he just wants to play. Steve has a little obsession with
cats so he needs to go to a cat free home.
Steve has really matured and is no longer on the counter or in the garbage.
He sleeps all night on a dog bed on the floor of my bedroom and he is
quite a loud snorer! Steve is 100% potty trained and has never had an
issue with "marking" indoors. Steve would make a wonderful family
pet!!
June 26th - Steve has a great personality. He gets along wonderfully with my other foster dog and my own small dog. He will actually play with my dog (who weighs 8 lbs)…. he is very gentle. Steve is very friendly towards cats but wants to lick them and sniff them and follows them everywhere --so he would probably do best in a cat free home. Steve is kenneled when I am not home and this does not bother him a bit. He will actually lie down in his kennel when I am home with the door open. When I leave all, I have to say is “kennel” and he runs right in (because he knows he is going to get a treat J ) Steve is completely potty trained. He does need to learn a couple of house manners such as staying off the counter and out of the garbage… but he is learning. Steve knows how to sit and will do anything for a treat – this guy LIVES for food! Steve’s cleft pallet is hardly noticeable. When I first picked him up, I couldn’t even tell until I really looked at his nose. This small defect does not bother him a bit—it just gives him a little character! Steve is patiently waiting for his forever family.
