2nd Annual Pet Portrait Contest Winners Announced!

Thank you to our judges: Tammy Swift from the Forum, Jane Alexander from Bob 95.1 and Cindy Gillund, one of our newest volunteers. All three judges had a hard time because there were so many great photos. Each had 6-7 favorites but had to narrow down to 2.

Laugh Out Loud (lol) - Jane Alexander looked at the photos strictly from the angle of, "Does this picture make me laugh?" King Boomer of Bella and Santo smiling big were the 1st and 2nd place winners, but she also considered: "Luka", "Love One Another Cat and Dog", "Candi´s 3rd Birthday", "3 Sleeping Foster Cats" and "Bailey with Toy".

Beauty and the Beast - Tammy Swift. Tammy said it was difficult to narrow them down, she had about 5 or 6 original pictures for this one. In the end she chose "Kasper and Kat" for 1st place and Truman and Maisy for 2nd place.

Picture (too) Perfect - Cindy is our amateur photographer volunteer. She told us that after a lot of deliberation she finally got it down to her 1st Place Winner, "Max" and her 2nd place winner, "Oscar and Oliver". "When it came down to the end, I just decided I was going to be very picky about photographic elements and what the picture was conveying. "I think my two selections meet the criteria of being aesthetically pleasing, good composition, and conveying what dogs really are about. I could stare at Max´s photo for hours. The eyes say so much and the photographer really captured that perfectly. The second place winner, "Oscar and Oliver" really captures two dogs who are buddies and does so very artistically. Changing the tone from color to black and white was a very smart and dramatic decision that allows the viewer to just focus on the dogs in the middle."

Speaking For Spot - Be an advocate and give $4.00 to 4 Luv of Dog

Speaking for Spot giving back link 4 Luv of Dog Rescue will earn $4 for every copy of Speaking for Spot purchased through Dr. Kay’s website (click the icon to go directly to the giving back order page) when our organization is selected from the online pull down menu or via the downloadable order form below (for those who prefer to pay by check rather than online with PayPal).

"Speaking for Spot" was a labor of love for Dr. Nancy Kay, fueled by her passion to teach people how to be effective medical advocates for their four-legged best friends. Gone are the days of simply following doc's orders - today's dog lovers are confronted with health-care decision-making on many levels: 1) How do I find a vet that feels just right for me and my dog?; 2) How will I be able to afford my dog's health care? Is pet insurance the way to go?; 3) Does my dog truly need all those vaccines listed on the reminder postcard?; 4) What are the important questions I should be asking my vet; 5) Does my dog really need the surgery or procedure that has been recommended?; 6) Are there other options I should be considering?; 7) When is it appropriate to get a second opinion? Where should I go to get one and how can I avoid offending my vet?; 8) Should I take my dog to see a specialist?; 9) Should I consider treating my dog's cancer?; 10) Am I doing the right thing? Am I doing this for him or for me?; 11) Is my dog ready to say goodbye? Am I ready to let him go? What are my choices when it comes to the euthanasia process?

Please go to www.speakingforspot.com to read about Dr. Kay and Speaking for Spot. You will also find free, downloadable health forms and templates to help manage your dog's health care needs.
